Academic MCP for Cherry Studio

Add ScholarMuse as a Streamable HTTP server in Cherry Studio and sign in in your browser. Whichever tool-calling model you use can then search papers, check references and draw figures.

How to connect ScholarMuse to Cherry Studio

Add the server with the one-click link or by hand, switch it on, then select it for the assistant you chat with. The connection does not depend on which model you use, but the model has to support tool calling. These steps follow the Cherry Studio documentation.

Full connect guide →
  1. Step 1

Quick way: open the install link

Open this link on the computer where Cherry Studio is installed. It adds ScholarMuse to your MCP servers, switched off. You still enable it in the next steps.

    cherrystudio://mcp/install?servers=eyJtY3BTZXJ2ZXJzIjp7InNjaG9sYXJtdXNlIjp7InR5cGUiOiJzdHJlYW1hYmxlSHR0cCIsImJhc2VVcmwiOiJodHRwczovL3NjaG9sYXJtdXNlLmFpL21jcCJ9fX0%3D
  2. Step 2

    Or add it by hand

Go to Settings → MCP → MCP Servers → Add. Choose the type Streamable HTTP, paste this address as the URL and leave the headers empty.

    https://scholarmuse.ai/mcp
  3. Step 3

Save and switch the server on

Save the server and enable it. Cherry Studio then opens your system browser for the sign-in.

  4. Step 4

    Approve in your browser

A scholarmuse.ai window opens. Sign in, approve access and choose which discipline packs Cherry Studio may use. There is no API key to create or paste.

  5. Step 5

Select it in the chat and check

In a chat, enable ScholarMuse for the assistant in the MCP selector. Then ask it to list the ScholarMuse capabilities and name three things it can now do for your research.

What your Cherry Studio assistants can do once connected

Cherry Studio lets you choose the model, and models differ in how well they recall the literature. The list therefore starts with search and checking, where real records matter most, and ends with data and archive lookups.

Search papers
Whichever model you run, the papers it discusses come from a search across seven indexes and carry DOIs.
Verify references
Check references a model wrote for you, including ones from a different model or an earlier conversation.
Retraction checker
Screen the included studies of a review or meta-analysis for retractions, corrections and expressions of concern.
Journal checker
Compare a few candidate journals on DOAJ listing, APC and output before choosing one.
Scientific figure maker
Describe a study design or a mechanism in the chat and get a labelled figure back, then ask for changes in words.
Find funded grants
Read the abstracts of projects NIH, NSF and UKRI have funded in your area, for example before contacting a prospective host.
Find datasets
Find open data for a course project or a secondary analysis, with licence and DOI stated.
Historical archives
Search digitised newspapers, manuscripts and images for work in history and the humanities.

Things to ask in Cherry Studio

Search papers

You say to your agent

Use ScholarMuse to find empirical studies since 2023 on generative AI in undergraduate writing instruction. For each, give the sample, the design and the DOI.

De-duplicated records with DOI, authors and venue, and open-access links where they exist, for the model to summarise.

Retraction checker

You say to your agent

Here are the DOIs of the 32 studies included in my meta-analysis. Tell me which ones have been retracted or corrected, and when.

Each DOI with its status: retraction, correction, expression of concern or nothing found, and the source of the notice.

Scientific figure maker

You say to your agent

Draw a study design figure for a three-arm randomised controlled trial: screening, randomisation, 12-week intervention, follow-up at 24 weeks. White background, English labels.

A finished figure in the conversation, which you can revise with further instructions.

Frequently asked questions

Any model you have configured, provided it supports tool calling. A model without tool calling can still chat, but it cannot call ScholarMuse, so its answers will not contain looked-up records.

Check three things. The server is switched on under Settings → MCP; the install link adds it switched off. ScholarMuse is selected for the assistant in the chat’s MCP selector. The current model supports tool calling.

No. Leave the headers empty. You sign in at scholarmuse.ai in your browser and approve access there. The model provider keys you use in Cherry Studio are separate and are not sent to ScholarMuse.

A new ScholarMuse account receives 50 credits once. Model usage in Cherry Studio is billed by your model provider, separately from ScholarMuse. Each ScholarMuse result states its source and licence.

Every call your agent makes uses credits, and a call is charged only when it succeeds. There are no subscriptions. A new account starts with a one-time gift of 50 credits. The 6 web tools under /tools are free without an account, up to 5 runs a day.

Requests are used only to answer you. We do not train models on them.
